According to the Youth and Sports Minister ????. ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? preparations leading to the start of the biggest National sporting events are well on course.
The month-long tournament which is officially sponsored by Orange Liberia will see the GSM provider splashing out forty thousand United States Dollars including other undisclosed packages to the tournament through a partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Minister Wilson speaking at a joint Press Conference on Thursday, December 17, 2020, as part of plans ahead of the tournament pointed out that they will ensure that COVID-19 playing protocols are adhered to by all.
“Everyone will be made to wear mask before entering the field adding that technical details relative the overall population and or attendance at the entire field are now being work on but was hasten to say that they will enforce the mandate to the core void of interferences and distractions.
However, he stated that as for the VIP, half of the total of two hundred and ten people meaning one hundred and five spectators will be allowed to witness the game from that end.
Mr. Wilson told reporters that they have already submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning a usual budget of $300,000 USD and is hoping for the disbursement of such but was quick to note that each participating team will receive $USD13,000.
He used the occasion to commend the official sponsor of the tournament Orange Liberia for always supporting said endeavor including other proposed sponsors of the County Meet.
Already two giant size trophies made possible by one of the sponsors from the United States of America are in the Country as about four hundred customize footballs will arrive in the Country soon, Minister Wilson further told reporters.
Also speaking at the joint Press Conference was the Marketing Director of Orange Liberia Julien Paquior who recommitted his Company’s drive to always supporting and promoting the game in Liberia.
He said they have other fabulous and undisclosed packages for the tournament all in a move to make the game better across the Country.
The distribution of other branded orange items to the participating teams and fans and the preparation of security tickets are also additional packages for the tournament from the end of the official sponsor.
Well Representing the entire fifteen Counties of Liberia was Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf who urged all Liberians to see the sporting event as a means of uniting the entire Country despite political and or geographical backgrounds.
“Let’s use the games to unite and promote as well as support our God giving and future talents, he reintegrated.
On the issue of adhering to one of the tournament’s mandates, Minister Sirleaf stressed that they will be this time around very drastic on Counties that will fail to present reporters to the Ministry of Youth and Sports which he noted has been the case in the past but will not be tolerated going forward.
“ If you fail to present your report, whatever support you are to receive will be withheld until you comply”, he sounded a warning.
Meanwhile, the tournament which this year feature women football will begin on January 9, 2021, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium with Host Montserrado County taking on Maryland in both Football, Kickball, and women football respectively, that’s according to the sports director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Thomas Kojo.
