Dr. Alan White, a lead investigator in former President Charles Taylor trial, predicts additional sanctions on past and current public officials; says the Coalition for Democratic Change led-government is showing little interest in War Crimes Court Establishment in Liberia
The Chief Investigator for the United Nations Special Court for Sierra Leone, whose efforts led to the indictment of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, says the George Weah led government does not appear to be serious about the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Talk Show Host Henry Costa late Thursday evening, Dr. Alan White lamented that a key reason for Liberia’s snail pace in implementing the recommendations of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission is the fact that many of those who participated in the civil war are currently serving in government positions.
Dr. White however suggests that President George Weah writes the Secretary-General of the United Nations for immediate financial assistance towards establishing the War crimes court to prosecute perpetrators of war crimes in Liberia.
When asked about the U.S. Government sanction imposed on some former and current officials of the Liberian government, Dr. White said he’s reasonably certain that more sanctions will be imposed on top Liberian government officials in the not too distant future.

The election of Sen. Prince Y. Johnson by the Senate to Chair the Defence, Security and Intelligence Committee (a Leadership Committee of the Senate) is troubling and can best be described as a stab in the fight for accountability.
I am particularly saddened by the action of Sen. Steve Zargo of my own Political Party (Liberty Party) for shockingly withdrawing from the race at the eleventh-hour, especially after we had assured him of our unflinching support for the position. How sad!!
Notwithstanding, we will not relent in our fight for accountability and justice by and through the growing calls and demands for establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia to bring violators of the public trust to justice. God remains our guide and strength!!
