The Mayor of Freetown City Council Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE has departed Monrovia after a five-day stay in the municipal City of Monrovia. The African leader is returning to her country’s capital to commence official national duty after serving as Guest Speaker on the just ended occasion which marked the 45th Monrovia Day held at the Monrovia City Hall.
The City Government of Monrovia under the auspices of His Lordship Jefferson T. Koijee appreciated Mayor Aki-Sawyerr for honoring the nation’s capital official anniversary as Guest Speaker.
During the brief departure ceremony of Mayor Aki-Sawyerr to her home country today to continue the discharge of her national duty, the Mayor of Monrovia Jefferson T. Koijee wished her well and assured her of maintaining and sustaining the relationship between Monrovia and Freetown.
Meanwhile, Mayor Koijee lauded departing Freetown Mayor and delegation during a brief colorful send-off meeting held at the Bo Waterside in Grand Cape Mount.
The Monrovia City Mayor applauded the Freetown City Mayor and her delegation for their time in Monrovia and willingness to sustaining the relationship between the two cities. “The Monrovia City Government is at all-time willing and ready to professionally work with your City Council to foster international municipality between Monrovia and Freetown”, he noted.
Mayor Koijee further wished the departing Mayor and her delegation a blessed Thursday upon return to their home country. He pledged his Monrovia City Government unflinching support and cooperation to the Freetown City Mayor and her delegation during their stay in Monrovia.
At the same time, Mayor Koijee used the occasion to speak to young people and elders including the joint security assigned at the border. He told them not to give up in the fight against COVID-19 and encouraged them to follow the health protocols in an effort to curb the scourge.
Additionally, the young Mayor expressed his commitment to impacting the lives of young people and further encouraged them to put passion in what they do in order to maximize their potential. “Let your result be your opportunity”, he added.
The event was witnessed by some officials of the joint security assigned at the border including Commissioners, Chiefs and Elders, Youths and Community Leaders, amongst others.
