LMA police officers throw stones at marketers in Duala
……says they are implementing President Weah’s mandate
For their alleged refusal to move into the newly constructed Duala market, Police officers of the Liberia Marketing Association were on Thursday, April 21, 2022, seen throwing stones at marketers selling at the Kangar-building area in Duala as a means of getting them off the street.

Since the dedication of the modern Duala Market by President George Weah, the issue of getting marketers off the main street into the market building has been a major challenge for the Liberia Marketing Association; with many marketers complaining that the market building is small and the fees charged for spots is very high that they cannot afford.
Early Thursday Morning April 21, 2022, Police officers of the Liberia Marketing Association moved to the Kangar-Building area in Duala to implement what they called, the President’s mandate of getting marketers off the street; the process got chaotic after some LMA police officers allegedly took away the goods of several marketers in the area.
Our reporter who visited the scene said LMA police officers and marketers were seen throwing stones at each other, a situation that lasted for several minutes.

Several marketers who spoke to this station said they are still selling in the street due to the lack of selling spots in the market-building, something they noted that the market is overcrowded and cannot contain all of them.
The marketers further called on President George Weah to make a quick intervention into the situation, thus appealing to the Liberia Marketing Association to allow them to sell but create a demarcation line that will prevent them from getting on the main road.
Also speaking, the president of the Borough Petty Sellers Initiative, James Coleman said the organization has been working closely with LMA and the office of the Governor of the Borough to ensure that marketers leave the main road.

According to him, the marketers were not selling on the main street for which their goods were being destroyed by LMA police officers, stressing that the marketers at Kangar building are not the ones that have been obstructing traffic.
