Despite the visitors (Marylanders) numerical dominance in fans over the home Side Montserrado County, the real owners of the land were not deter but remained focus thereby overpowering the South Eastern side in the opener of the 26th edition of the National County Sports Meet at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Central Monrovia on Saturday January 9, 2021.
The huge fans of the visitors dressed in their dominant yellow and green marginalized the decimal fans of Montserrado who were present but strugglingly seen in their Red White and Blue as the visitors stormed the Antoinette Tubman Stadium singing in the Grebo vernacular as a means motivating their players something which saw them took the early Two home runs lead in the kickball game over Host Montserrado County but that lasted for few minutes when the home side changed their tactics and came back with excessive force and double and later triple the margin and subsequently saw them trashed out Maryland County kick ball team by 11-2 home runs as the fans of Maryland were no where to be found in jubilation but rather murmuring as a commentary after the match.
Elsewhere In the football category following the official kickoff by Nathaniel McGill, Minister of State for Presidential affairs flanked by Youth and Sports Minister D.Zeogar Wilson alongside other local and national leaders, the both teams began the match with double counter attacks knocking the doors for the match opener which came in the early first half but was squandered by experienced striker of Montserrado County Alloy Brown from the penalty spot after skillful Musa Jabateh was brought down in the eighteen yard box of the visitors.
Maryland later tried to capitalize on the golden opportunity from Montserrado County but it did not pay off as first half ended goalless with the fans still have hope of something to celebrate in the second and final half of the game.
Back from the break, the visitors again started early counter attacks which saw them netted in the first goal of the 2020/2021 National County Sports Meet through a clever assist from the left side of the field and was excellently converted with an inside right footed strike from young and creative attacking midfielder Toe Allison as the fans of Maryland were seen again jubilating for the long awaited goal.
Montserrado maintained composure, mounted pressure and got the equalizer just after few minutes with an easy top in from Jimmy Carter after the Marylander goalkeeper failed to hold on to a feeble Header.
The home side later took complete control of the game and got the second and third from experience striker Alloy Brown who finally got it right with a brace for his County as the fans of Montserrado County were seen jubilating with the slogan, this is our home.
