Police Arrests Criminal Suspects, Drugs Abusers

The Liberia National Police and the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, have raided several criminal hideouts in Ganta, arresting about 21 suspected criminals and drugs users.
The suspects’ arrest comes amid a high increase in crimes across Ganta City, Nimba County.

Acting Police Commander at Ganta Detail, Augustine Mantol, said the operation is in response to the high crime rate characterized by hijacking and armed robbery on the Main Street of Ganta. He clarified that the joint operation was backed by the Police Support Unit (PSU) officers recently assigned at the Ganta border.

The officers raided the notorious ‘Camp Russia’ situated on the rubber farm behind the Methodist Mission on the Sanniquellie highway.
The police station was extremely crowded when the police paraded with the suspected criminals from where they were raided through the Main Street of Ganta. The increase in hijacking and armed robbery on Ganta Main Street, especially around Total Gas Station is creating concern and fear in the business booming community.

A marketer from Monrovia traveling to Bahn for locally produced goods was armed robes at 5 a.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021.
“When I was trying to find a car for Bahn, a group of men some using cutlasses and sharp objects surrounded me and took the bag that contained L$ 150,000 and US$ 50.00 from me,” said Comfort Gray.

Showing bruises on her face and elbow, Comfort said, “They took my phone and everything in my possession, and those around there at the time made no attempt to help rescue me from the criminals. The police, following the arrest, lined up the suspected criminals in an open space at the police station, asking the public to identify anyone they think had stolen or robbed them so that the person can be formally charged and sent to court.
