President Weah Son “Champ Weah make history feature in Premier Sports Event in Liberia “County Meet”

Liberia’s President George Manneh Weah’s son, George Weah Jr. has made history becoming the first sitting President of Liberia’s son to play in a nationwide Soccer tournament, the National County Sports Meet. Weah Jr. led the attack of Coach Mathew Juluteh (Grand Kru County) which narrowly lost its opening game against Bong County, one of the famous political subdivisions of Liberia, the home of the West African state first female Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel-Howard- Taylor. It is said that Vice President Jewel -Howard-Taylor hails from Bong County, while former FIFA player of the year now President George Manneh Weah originated from Grand Kru County, southeast Liberia.

Surprisingly in the National Sports event on Sunday, December 12, 2021, in Sanniqueille, Nimba County, the son of President George Manneh Weah, the former AC Milan, Chelsea, and Paris Saint Germain star, George Weah Jr. (Champ Weah ) was pictured playing for Grand Kru County the birthplace of his father President George Weah. Debates have it that the former Paris Saint Germain (PSG) academy forward wasn’t eligible to participate in the nation’s premier sporting event, and had breached the tournament rules and regulations requirement regarding who competed in the state event.

Given the fact that “Champ Weah” as he is affectionately known has obtained an International cap for Liberia and a wealth of experience as a professional footballer playing in Europe, which soccer lovers and supporters of the County Sports meet has deeply frowned on. George Weah Jr. refers as Champ Weah, most recently played as a midfielder for Swiss football club Chaux-de-Fonds as well as Paris Saint-Germain B, FC Lausanne–Sports reserve, and FC Wohlen among others. He also had two caps for the United States under-20 men’s national soccer team and was an unused substitute for the Liberian senior national side in 2-1 defeat to Togo at the 2017 Africa’s Cup of Nations qualifier round matches back in June 2015.

Liberia Public Radio inquires about the County Meet gather that per the rules that govern the tournament, Champ Weah isn’t eligible to compete, because the National County Sports Meet itself is required for only home-growing players -playing in the lower Liberian 3rd Division Championship and the LFA second Division League respectively, therefore Weah has breach the rules to feature for the county of his origin, which has spark mouthwatering debates in Liberian football circle. Unlike his junior brother Timothy Weah, who currently plays for LOSC Lille in the ligue 1, Champ’s football career has not been successful.
