Two Arrested For Trading Baby For US$60 To Strange Woman
MONROVIA DEC 16 (LINA) – Harriet T. Castro, 21 and an accomplice only identified as Jerome sold her six-month-old baby for US$60 dollars to an unknown woman at Miami Beach in Mamba Point, central Monrovia, said the police report.
The pair have since been incarcerated for the alleged act, however, a police probe further unveiled that the two offenders are always seen frequenting ghettos around the Mayeme Beach vicinity where the lady (yet to be identified) usually visits to give food to Harriet and the baby.
Police said the two defendants were acquainted with their Miranda rights and were investigated based upon a complaint filed by the child’s father Mohammed Bah who claimed that the mother of his child (Harriate) along with her assistant sold his child for US$60 to the unidentified woman at the beach on November 21, 2021.
Defendant Harriate Castro was charged with the crime of human trafficking while Jerome was charged with criminal facilitation in violation of Section four and Chapter 10, Section 10.2 of the Penal Law of Liberia respectively.
During a police investigation, the two admitted to the crime, but defendant Jerome confessed that he gave the baby to his aunt who, according to him, resides in the United States of America.
According to Jerome, it was he who introduced Harriate to his aunt prior to the deal to sell the child.
